Introduction Leiden University Excellence Scholarships
The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Scheme (LExS) is open to outstanding non-EEA/non-EFTA students studying for a full-time master's degree at Leiden University.

All full-time master's programs of Leiden University, except for the Master of Laws (non-advanced) and Master of Science programs of Leiden Law School.

The number and types of scholarships awarded depend on the available budget of each college department.

Scholarship amount/period:
The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Program has won 3 awards:
- 10,000 Euro tuition fee
- The tuition fee of € 15,000
- Total tuition fee minus statutory tuition fee
LExS is not a full scholarship. Non-EEA LExS recipients must still submit "Proof of Sufficient Funds" for student visa/residence permit applications.
Qualification for Leiden University Excellence Scholarships:
Students must have an excellent academic performance in their previous education, which is related to the master's program they are applying for.
As an illustration, the student is one of the top 10% of graduates in his previous study plan.
Note: No ranking certificate is required-this information only indicates the level of competitiveness.
non-EEA/non-EFTA* Applicants must hold a passport and may not be eligible for support from the Dutch study grant and loan (study grant) system-there is no nationality restriction except for students applying for LLM advanced research courses or MSC masters in international relations And diplomacy.
*All EU countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland)
Application instructions for Leiden University Excellence Scholarships
You must first apply online for admission to Leiden University's master's degree program. In your application, you must clearly indicate in the scholarship section that you want to apply for the LExS scholarship and upload your LExS scholarship motivation.
The deadline for the program starting in September is February 1 (exception-Advanced Master of Laws: March 1), and the deadline for the program starting in February is October 1st.
